ab-ject beauty brand is an exploration of design manipulation through Julia Kristeva's abject theory. The aesthetic is supposed to draw in the audience into the space and once they are immersed in the environment one will notice something off with the products. The products are filled with nails and hair to bring about a reaction to the undesirable, the abject. There is a lot to explore in the space such as ingredients that read backwards, black and white photos on the opposite side of color images, and currencies in euros to emphasize the fetishization of Europe as being higher end. Everything in the show was designed by me, from the overall space to the labels, my vision came to life. The actress also added to the space by really pulling in the audience to try the products. Whether or not people understood the point of the display, they were talking about it which is what I aimed to accomplish.
